#  Developing New Approaches to Studying Imperial Russia Using WorldMap

**Abstract**:

Some of the world’s finest atlases cover imperial Russia, and while they contain a wealth of historical geographic information, the materials are very difficult to access, let alone use productively within a classroom. To address this problem and enable new research methods, a collaboration was developed between Kelly O’Neill (History Department) and the Center for Geographic Analysis to georeference the materials and bring them into WorldMap (worldmap.harvard.edu) for use by researchers, students, and the general public.

**About the Event**:

The [CIO Council](http://ciocouncil.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do) at Harvard University, in conjunction with the [Center for Digital Education](http://www.centerdigitaled.com/), an external national research institute specializing in higher education technology trends, will host the Third Annual IT Summit at Harvard University on June 6, 2013. This event offers an opportunity for a broad gathering of colleagues — University IT staff, key partners, and faculty — to come together to discuss technology trends, innovations, and best practices in administrative, instructional, and research computing technology.  
  
During this event, Harvard faculty and staff will present on a wide variety of IT projects and initiatives and share their challenges and lessons learned. External industry practitioners will participate in an exhibition space and lunchtime educational sessions to share information and demonstrate on industry trends and practices.
